Covington-Area Woman Hits Pedestrian – Has Son Hide Drugs

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Covington-area woman following an incident

that occurred Thursday morning (March 28, 2019) in a neighborhood off Three Rivers Road in Covington.

STPSO deputies were dispatched in reference to a vehicle striking a pedestrian. The victim was blowing grass clippings on the edge of the roadway in front of a residence. A van driven by Courtney McMahon (39) struck the victim.The victim told responding deputies that McMahon stopped her vehicle immediately after the crash. Witnesses observed her 15-year-old son exit the vehicle with a bag and attempt to conceal it in a nearby yard. Deputies retrieved the bag and found suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside.

McMahon reportedly admitted ownership of the bag and its contents and confessed to having had her son attempt to hide the bag before deputies arrived. Her 16-year-old daughter was also in the vehicle at the time.

The victim was not seriously injured, but was transported to a local hospital as a precaution.

McMahon was charged with Reckless Operation, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Schedule II (methamphetamine), Driving Under Suspension, Failure to Appear for Driving Under Suspension (two counts), Possession of CDS with minors present (two counts), and Obstruction of Justice.
