Obituary

Charlotte Johnson
May 15, 1942 - February 12, 2019

My mother, Charlotte Johnson, 76, returned to her heavenly home on February 12, 2019 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.  Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately, gave her peace.  Her suffering was offered up as Penance. (I can’t wait to see who she was suffering for.)

She was born in New Orleans, LA to an entrepreneur and a housewife, Ralph Jay Duncan and Beryl Mattie Lestoric respectively, in New Orleans, LA on May 15, 1942.  As a young girl she survived many hardships and in doing so she found great solace in the Catholic Church when she entered into a boarding school in Victoria, Tx.  She always talked about the nuns and how happy she was there.  It was there she began paving the path to her eternal resting place in Heaven.

Mom told me the story why she wanted to become a fulltime mom.   I walked my first step and the nanny called her to tell her about it…..well she was not going to miss anymore “firsts”.

Believe it or not she used to scuba dive, skydive, and fly small planes.  Mom had a wild side (that’s how I got here).

Mother always put others first.   She would drop anything, and I mean anything if someone needed help, no matter how small or large it would be. Before you could even finish talking, she was coming up with a solution.

One of her greatest joys in life, after raising me, was her trip to Medjugorje, where she could be closest to the Blessed Virgin Mary.  It filled her heart with so much joy and peace and what a wonderful thing to witness.  She was always beautiful but when she was filled with the Holy Spirit, it was on another level.

My mother was survived by her former husband, Bobby Johnson, two brothers, Ken Duncan and Jerry Duncan, two half-brothers, Ralph Duncan and Stuart Duncan, one half-sister, Lorraine Duncan, a daughter, Victoria Pounds, a stepson, grandkids and great grandkids, and some wonderful cousins that she loved like sisters (you two know who you are).

Funeral services will be at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home in Bogalusa, LA visitation will begin at 9:30 am and continue until funeral service begins at 11 am on Friday, February 15, 2019. Interment to follow at Garden of Peace cemetery in Bogalusa, LA. Reverend Father Daniel Brouillette will officiate. Reception to follow at the Pounds House in Covington, LA.
