Frank James Strickland, age 86, passed away November 7, 2018 at his home in Bogalusa, two days before his 87th birthday. He was born November 9, 1931 in Osyka, Mississippi to parents Henry and Dean Strickland. After graduating from Osyka High School in 1950, he moved to Bogalusa and enlisted in the Navy for 4 years and then went to work at the Bogalusa Paper Mill for several years. Later, he purchased Gilbert Insurance Agency which he owned and operated for 40 years and served on the Board of Directors for Independent Insurance Agents of Louisiana for many years. Frank was also very active in his community serving on the Board of Directors of the Bogalusa Community Medical Center for many years, as well as, the Washington Parish Fair Association, United Way, Rotary Club, Bogalusa Chamber of Commerce and the American Legion. He also served on the board of Louisiana Prison Enterprise for over 16 years. Frank was a charter member of MCCA and the den of Roogaroo's.
He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Bogalusa.
Frank is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jo Ann Tynes Strickland, son Randy Strickland, daughter Dee Dee Strickland Carrier and son-in-law Scott Carrier, grandchildren Sierra Slade Emmons (Chris), Stuart Slade, (Payton Burris), Victoria Strickland, Thomas Strickland, great grandson Lawson Emmons and soon to be great granddaughter Annalise Emmons.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Dean Strickland, brothers Aubrey Strickland, Winton Strickland, sisters Audis Strickland McGehee, Erma Strickland Walters and Minnie Strickland Tomicich.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 10 at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Sunday at 11:00 am until funeral at 2:00 pm. Rev. Greg Whaley and Rev. Eric Williams will officiate. Interment will be at Ponemah Cemetery.
