Irene Peters Myres
June 27, 1921 - November 15, 2018



I have fought a good fight I have finished my race I have kept the faith. II Timothy 4:4

Irene P. Myres, age 97 of Varnado, passed away November 15, 2018. She was born to the union of the late David Peters and Mandy P. Peters in Angie, LA on June 27, 1921.

She was a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Ivy Williams and then her great nephew, Rev. Sidney Burns, Jr. She was a great homemaker, phenomenal cook, seamstress, loving mom and grandmother. She loved to plant and work in her garden until her health began to fell. She was a member of the choir and loved to sing. She was Momo and Mama Rene to all. We were blessed and thankful to have her in our lives for so many years. Irene faced many challenges; however, being able to cast her 1st vote for our first African American President this was a proud moment for her, as she expressed this to her children and grandchildren. Irene was wed to the late, Jesse Myres, Sr. and to this union, nine children were born.

Irene leaves to cherish her memories four children, Vernell Myres of Angie, LA, Jessie M. (David) May of Angie, LA, Jesse Myres, Jr. of Angie, LA, Annie R. (Robert) Peters of Angie, LA; one stepson, Rev. Ottis “Boot” (Trenell) Myres of Sandyhook, MS; one God-daughter, Jackie Nicholson of Bogalusa, LA; two special granddaughters, Veronica (Curtis) Gatlin of Bogalusa, LA and Claudia Myres of Albany, LA; 108 grandchildren and great grandchildren, 17 great great grandchildren; special friends and neighbors, Hazel Lee Abrams and Sharon Graves both of Angie, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Myres, Sr.; five children, Earl Lee Myres, Wilbert L. Myres, Clody Ree Myres, Arginettia Myres Smith, Florence Myres Spikes; twelve brothers and sisters, Idella P. Magee, Minnie P. Magee, Lola P. Brown, Alton Peters, Kelly Peters, Thomas J. Peters, Roosevelt Peters, Edward Peters, Eliza P. Parker, Pete Peters, Rebecca Peters, and Estelle P. Roberts.

Visitation will be Friday, November 23, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa, Louisiana. The Funeral wil be Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Pilgram Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Angie, Louisiana.
