Velma Augustine Magee
December 04, 2015 - October 05, 2018

Velma Augustine Magee, a native of Franklinton and resident of New Orleans, was called to her eternal home on Friday, October 5, 2018. Her parents were Rev. Thomas C. and Easter Dyson and was the ninth of thirteen children.

Velma was known by many as the Universal Grandmother, and others as Guardian Angel by her family she was known as Braone and Mother. She loved being around her family, and enjoyed laughter and had the most heart-warming smile.

She was married to the late Shelton Magee for 58 years. Velma was preceded in death by her six brothers, T.C Jr., Willard Earl, Willard, Chester, Henry and Ike; six sisters, Grace, Lucille, Ollie Mae, Leatha, Camille and Pearl, son George E. Ivy and two grandchildren’s Mitchell Myers and Latonya Wells.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter’s, Nellie V. Hayes, Latricia Hills and Charlene Allen; 11 grandchildren’s, Donald Ray Myers Sr., Cynthia L Joseph, Shelton O. Myers, Freddie E. Myers, George Ivy Jr. Thomas C Ivy, Gelisa Hill, Lanise Robinson, and Gregory Hill. She had 34 great grandchildren’s, and 45 great-great grandchildren’s and two great-great-great granddaughters, a host of nieces, nephews and relatives including her church family and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 8:30AM – 10:00AM followed by the funeral service for 10:00AM at Payne Memorial AME Church 3306 South Liberty, New Orleans, LA 70115 with Rev. Troy Williams - Officiating. Interment: Restlawn Park.

Crain and Sons Funeral Home – Franklinton are in charge of arrangements.
