St. Tammany Sheriff Reports on Huge Undercover Operation

In a press conference yesterday (September 27, 2018), St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith
revealed that his Narcotics Task Force successfully conducted a two month undercover operation in the West 30s neighborhood of Covington that led to 22 arrests of men and women charged with drug related offenses. “We were asked by community leaders in June of this year to intervene and help remove a dangerous element from this North Covington neighborhood,” Sheriff Smith said. “This area has been rife with multiple drive-by shootings, an unsolved murder, robberies, other reported shootings, and in-the-open drug dealing,” Sheriff Smith also said.

The Sheriff also noted that while completing the West 30s investigation, Narcotics Task Force deputies across the parish made an additional 88 arrests, seized 17 firearms, conducted 22 residential search warrants, received and assigned 85 tip-line complaints and documented numerous new confidential informants.
