Obituary

Georgia B Martin
December 23, 1932 - June 14, 2018



Grorgia Mae Bruns Martin was born December,23, in Bogalusa, Louisiana.  Her parents were the late George Jean Bruns and Lucille Rogers Bruns. 
On December 29, 1952, Georgia and Melvin Martin Jr,. were united in Holy Matrimony.  Georgia was a devoted wife and loving mother of two children, Marsha Kim Martin and Kenneth Wayne Martin.
Mrs. Martin a was lifelong member of Thirkield United Methodist Church where she was faithful servant and reared her children in the church.  She served on several boards and committees which includes: Chairperson of the finance Committee, Administrative Board, and Pastor Parish Relations Committee.
She was a 1951 graduate of Central Memorial High School, Where she was on the dance team.  After graduation she attended Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she graduated with her Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education.  Her belief in the power of education and learning lead her to further her education at Southeastern Louisiana University where she graduated with  her Masters in Education in 1971 and a Plus 30.  She continued to take courses at Southeastern Louisiana University to further her education and other studies included Dillard University and the university of California at Berkley.
Over her esteemed 37 years career in public education in  the Bogalusa City Schools, she served as an English, Social Studies, and Physical Education teacher to the children at Central Memorial High and Bogalusa Jr. High.  She served in the position of Assistant Principal at Bogalusa Junior High.  She was promoted to Supervisor of Personnel and Adult Education in June 1981.  She retired as Supervisor of Personnel on July 1, 1994.
She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Martin, Jr: her parents George Jean Bruns and Lucille Rogers Bruns: and five siblings Napoleon Bruns, Sr., Otis Lang, Bernice Bruns Pittman, Irma Bruns Hill, and Gladys Bruns Sampson.
On Thursday, June 14, 2018, she passed away at ST.Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington, LA.  Affectionally known as "Mimi", she will be lovingly remembered by her devoted children; daughter Marsha (Charles) Kim Spikes and son Kenneth (Hildra) Wayne Martin both of Bogalusa; nephew Bruce Sampson of Bogalusa.  Six grandchildren: Kimberly Spikes Crum (Willie) of Atlanta, GA; Daphne Martin Donaldson (Alvin) of Denham Springs, LA Leslie Spikes Harvey (Jabari) of Houston TX. Bridget Martin od Denham Spring LA, Kenneth Martin II (Jenay) of Denham Springs, LA; Trey Thomas of Bogalusa LA; one sister Elmira Bruns Brown of Houston, TX; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She had a special relationship with her nephew and Godson, Bruce Sampson, that she helped rear, her nephew/brother, Napolean Bruns II; her friend/daughter-in-love Willie "Toni" Breaux and cousin Stanley Brown.
Visitation will be at Thirkield United Methodist Church in Bogalusa on Friday June, 22, 2018 at 3:00 pm, followed by a Family Gathering from 6 pm to 7 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at Thirkield United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 11 am.
