Minnie Marilyn Bailey Crews
February 09, 1934 - May 06, 2018



Minnie Marilyn Bailey Crews was born February 9, 1934 in Bogalusa, LA to the late William and Aretha Bolton Bailey, Jr. She graduated from Central Memorial High School in Bogalusa, LA at the age of 16 years old. After finishing high school, she left the state of Louisiana, receiving a BA degree from Southern University, Baton Rouge, LA, she continued advanced studies at U.C.L.A. and Pepperdine in Los Angeles, CA.
She moved to Los Angeles, CA and met Charles Crews and from this union of Holy Matrimony, a son was born, Keith Crews. Marilyn worked 12 years as a postal clerk, tour guide, and seasonal supervisor. 27 years at Los Angeles Unified School as a teacher in the English and Social Studies departments at Westchester High School, Reiley High School, and Jordan High School. Her leadership qualities was put to good use in the Dean’s office at Westchester High School. She coordinated all multi-cultural and human relation activities for Westchester High School during the riot of 1992.
Marilyn like her father, William Bailey, Jr., was always involved in community service both in Los Angeles and Bogalusa. Marilyn returned to Bogalusa, LA in 2000 and was active serving her community. She served a term as councilwoman for eight years, CASA volunteer and many other organizations. She enjoyed interacting with people. Marilyn was baptized as an infant by Rev. N.L. Lumz in the St. Paul A.M.E. Church where she served a Sunday School Superintendent and member of the choir. After moving to Los Angeles, she joined Brookin A.M.E. Church and was a devoted member until her return home and her reuniting her membership with St. Paul A.M.E. Church. She has been a very faithful and loyal member and officer to her church as well as her pastors since renewing her membership. She served on many committees such as the Lay Organization, Missionary Society, Stewards Board. And St. Paul Centennial Committee, just to name a few.
Leaving to cherish her precious memories, a brother, Joseph Bailey of Bogalusa, LA; grandson Kasey B. Crews of Los Angeles, CA; devoted niece Wanderlyn Evans Weary og Bogalusa, LA; nephew Brandon Bailey of Los Angeles, CA; Nieces Shannon W. Owens’ Lewisville, Tx. Yolanda (Albert) Magee; of Arlington, Tx. And Terrie W. Robinson of Cibolo, Tx. 5 great nephews Danel (Katie) Owens of Irving Tx.; Dimyrius Owens of Lewisville, Tx. William Monk of Arlington, Tx. Gregory A. Weary and Jerry Robinson of Cibolo, Tx. 3 great nieces Dejah M. Owens & Dimyrria Owens Lewisville, TX. Alisa Magee of Arlington, TX. And also nephew Shawn Owens and niece Lillie Owens of Irving TX. And Two caregivers Patricia & Martha Felton, and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was proceeded in death by her mother Aretha Bolton Bailey and father William Bailey, Jr.; Husband Charles Crews; son Keith Crews; sister Margie Bailey Evans Cleaver; and special cousin Carol Jean Bolton Morgan.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at the chapel of Crain & Sons Funeral Home – Bogalusa, LA from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM and a family hour to follow from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
The Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at St. Paul A.M.E. Church. 420 Church Street, Bogalusa, LA at 11:00 AM; with Elder R. L. Palmer, Jr. - Pastor Officiating.
Crain & Sons Funeral Home of Franklinton, LA are in charge of arrangements.
