Joseph Latimore Knight
December 20, 1931 - January 25, 2018



Joseph Latimore Knight departed this life on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at his home at the age of 86. He was a resident of Franklinton, also having lived in Amite, Louisiana, and Ridgway, Colorado for a number of years.
Born in Washington Parish on December 20, 1931, Joe was a graduate of Franklinton High School and Louisiana Tech University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. Following his service in the United States Army, Joe started a long career with L P & L/Entergy, retiring in 1991 as Manager of the Southeast District, consisting of Washington and Tangipahoa parishes.
He was a loving husband, father, and “Papa” to his grandchildren, and a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Franklinton. He was a fiercely independent man known for his incredible work ethic and devotion to his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Mary Ellen Ellzey Knight; daughters, Amanda Knight Sharp and husband Terry, of Amite, LA, and Melissa Knight Miller and husband Conrad, of Bentonville, AR; six grandchildren, Kylie Sharp, Morgan Sharp, Peyton Sharp, Christian Miller, Jackson Miller, and Madeline Miller; great-granddaughter, Addison Grace Sharp; sister, Glenna Rae Lusk and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Otis Knight and Lou Zelle Bahm Knight; and brothers Hubert Knight and Charles Knight.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Sunday January 28th from 5 pm until 9 pm and after 9 am on Monday. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11 am Monday with Rev. Paul Watts and Rev. Joey Miller officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Woodland Cemetery in Kentwood, LA
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to the New Sanctuary Fund of First Baptist Church of Franklinton (950 Self Street, Franklinton, LA 70438)
