On November 20, 2017, a rabbit hunter discovered human skeletal remains in a wooded area near East Factory Street in Amite. With the assistance of the LSU FACES Laboratory, the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office has been able to positively identified those remains as 50-year-old Amite resident Leonard Hickerson.Hickerson was reported missing by family members on August 9, 2017. The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, Amite City Police Department, Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office, and the LSU FACES laboratory are all still currently investigating the case.
