Update on Fatal Deputy-Involved Shooting in Hickory

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has released an update on the shooting by STPSO deputies on Saturday (November 11, 2017) that left one man dead in the Hickory community. Deputies had responded to a report that a man had forced entry into the home on Holifield Lane, was shooting inside the residence, and was holding a female hostage.
When deputies arrived, the suspect exited the residence with the gun, and, despite deputies’ commands to drop the weapon, pointed it at deputies. In response, deputies fired at the suspect, who then quickly re-entered the residence. Deputies made entrance into the home and located Longoria lying on the floor.
Deputies escorted the uninjured female hostage out of the residence and secured the scene. EMS personnel began to render aide to Longoria; however, he succumbed to his injuries.
After speaking to witnesses, detectives know that, prior to deputies’ arrival, Longoria had held both the ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend at gunpoint and had shot at the boyfriend as he fled the residence.
As is standard in such incidents, the deputies involved, Deputy Christopher Graham, Deputy Eric Restel and Deputy Matthew Nelson, have been placed on temporary administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
