Obituary

James L. "Bo" Weary
December 05, 1958 - October 24, 2017

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Hence forth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord the righteousness, shall give me at that day. 2 Timothy 4:7-8
On Tuesday, Oct 24, 2017 at 3:28 p.m. the angel of death came and silently claimed the soul of the one we loved so dearly. James Louis “BO” Weary was born December 5, 1958 to the late Chance Weary and  Charlene Morris Weary.
He attended New Zion Missionary Baptist at an early age. As a child he grew up in Chicago, Ill where he attended Englewood High School and graduated in 1977. He received an athletic scholarship to play football at Wiley College in Tyler, Texas where he pledged Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. Later, he relocated to Varnado, La. where he was employed by Diamond Offshore for over 30 years. He was the first black driver on the Ocean America Rig. This afforded him the opportunity to travel the world covering countries in Africa, Asia, Brazil, Australia, Singapore and more.
He enjoyed hosting big family and community gatherings. Bo was always the life of the party. He was a gentle giant who opened his doors and welcomed everyone with his contagious smile. He always had a way of making everyone feel special. Bo was the master of giving advice, even though some of us would not listen and take heed. He loved music, and sports (New Orleans Saints and Pelicans), a nice outfit with a matching hat, clean ride and turning a block. He always said “life is not too short, we just wait too long to start living it.”
He touched so many young people live by mentoring, counseling and sometimes preaching to them about how to become responsible adults.
On April 29, 2017 he hosted a dinner to thank the community for reaching out and helping all the residents on Fostertown Road that came to their rescue during the March 5, 2016 flood that devastated their community.
