Jarrett Varnado (13) from Franklinton drowned after he disappeared below the water's surface while swimming in Gray's Creek near 18680 Guitreau Lane, in Port Vincent, according to Port Vincent Police Chief Matthew Allen. Authorities were able to recover his body and he was pronounced dead by the Livingston Parish Coroner's Office.
No foul play is suspected, but Port Vincent police continue to investigate the incident, Allen said.
Port Vincent police were assisted in the investigation by the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office, District 4 Fire Department, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and Acadian Ambulance Service.
