Forty-Six people have been arrested in a multi-county drug roundup led by the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics. The operation focused on the counties of Lawrence, Lincoln, Pike, Jeff Davis, Walthall and Copiah and is the result of an 18 month investigation.
MBN Director John Dowdy says all the arrests are related to controlled substances and that this investigation was significant due to the number of opioids being distributed on the streets throughout the state. Agents recovered cocaine, hydrocodone, oxycodone and dilaudid during the roundup.
Walthall County Sheriff Kyle Breland posted that “Most of these offenders were picked up in neighboring counties but a lot of the ones arrested are ones that travel through and visit our county pretty often. We deal with them on a daily basis or see the affects of their criminal ways. This is a nationwide epidemic that is taking over our country. Anytime I can send some of our guys to assist local, state, and federal agencies, you can bet I'm going to do it.”
