McCraney reportedly claimed he and Young were almost hit with the elderly man's car as they were walking across the street and they yelled at the elderly man who pulled over to the side of the road, an action the two took as a sign of aggression. McCraney told officers he “felt like he had to defend his territory” and “show him what was up” and reportedly began to beat the elderly man.
The 73-year-old man was transported to a local Slidell hospital, but due to his severe facial injuries, he had to be transported to University Medical Center in New Orleans. The victim was unable to remember any of the details involving the incident.
At the time of the incident, McCraney and Young were both charged with disturbing the peace and second degree battery. More charges could follow, and due to the age of the victim, McCraney and Young could face enhanced penalties.
