Obituary

Larry Miller
December 17, 1938 - June 16, 2017



JAMES LARRY MILLER, AGE 78 and a resident of Mt. Hermon died Friday evening June 16, 2017 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. He was a Vietnam War era veteran of the United States Air Force which began a career of 21 years. Larry worked at the former Washington Bank for 14 before a career as a Washington Parish Sheriff’s Deputy for 17 years. During this time, he also served as a Justice of the Peace in Mt. Hermon for 32 years. Larry enjoyed playing softball in his younger days and also liked working on his computer, but his main hobby was work and the service he provided to his community. He was longtime active member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, where he was a deacon for over 30 years and also the music director and a member of the church choir.
Survived by: Wife of 60 years: Margaret Wilkes Miller of Mt. Hermon; Son and Daughter in law: Jim and Lisa Miller of Mt. Hermon; 5 Grandchildren: Ethan Miller, Patrick Fair, Alicia Sanders, Tyler Lindsey, Shannon Holliday; 5 Great-grandchildren; Sister and Brother in law: Dorothy Miller Burch and Phillip Burch of Alvin, TX; Brother in law: Samuel Wilkes of Mt. Hermon; Son in law: Mike Holliday; Also numerous nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his daughter Brenda Miller Holliday, twin infant sons James Allen Miller and James Aaron Miller, his parents J.D. Miller and Nellie Cutrer Miller, sister in law and brother in law Judy and Larry Curuth.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Monday June 19th from 5 pm until 9 pm and after 11 am on Tuesday. A funeral service will be held at 1 pm Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Joe Baugh, Rev. Ray Wuerzer and Rev. Leroy McElveen officiating. Burial will military honors will follow in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
Pallbearers are the Honor Guard of the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office.
