Father's Day Celebration Turns Deadly in Slidell

A family gathering celebrating Father’s Day turned deadly Sunday (June 18, 2017) night in Slidell. Slidell Police, responding to reports of gunfire in the 1300 block of Sunset Drive, found Eric Brown laying in the street and suffering from several gunshot wounds. Eric Brown was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
James Chaney (32), and his aunt’s fiancĂ©, Eric Brown (40), got into a verbal argument in the back yard at 1301 Sunset Drive. James Chaney armed himself with a firearm, the argument continued into the street and turned physical. James Chaney fired several shots at Eric Brown, striking him several times. Eric Brown ran down the street, where he later collapsed.
Investigators recovered the 9mm semi-automatic pistol inside the residence and charged James Chaney with one count of Second Degree Murder.
