A prison cadet was arrested Monday (January 5, 2017) for allegedly smuggling synthetic marijuana into the B.B. Rayburn Correctional Center near Angie on three occasions recently, authorities said. Caleb Powe (19) of Carriere, Mississippi, who was a probationary employee who had worked at the state prison since January 17, was fired, according to a news release from the Louisiana Department of Corrections.
During questioning, Powe confessed to delivering packages of drugs to the prison three times over the past four weeks, the release said. He said he was paid $400 to smuggle the drugs into the northeastern Washington Parish facility, according to authorities.
Correctional officers notified the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office, which booked Powe with introduction of contraband into a penal institution. His bond was set at $2,500.
