Update of our May 30, 2017: STPSO Investigating the Reported Killing of a Pit Bull
Willis Brailey (50) of Slidell has been arrested for simple cruelty to animals after pictures posted on social media created a firestorm over allegations that he dragged his canine to death. However, the investigation, during which multiple independent witnesses were interviewed, revealed that the incident was an accident and was not intentional.
Brailey told investigators he took his two dogs for a ride, which he often does, and put them on a leash inside the bed of his pickup truck. Unbeknownst to Brailey, one of his dogs jumped out of the truck while he was driving down the highway. Brailey was flagged down and he pulled over to find his dog deceased but left when faced with an angry person accusing him of “murdering” his dog. Brailey immediately went home, called Slidell Animal Control, and left a message because they were closed.
