Walthall County Officers Struggle With Suspect and Victim

Last Night (April 24, 2017) a Walthall County Deputy, while trying to arrest a suspect for a domestic violence assault, was forcefully attacked and bitten. The deputy called for assistance and Tylertown Police Officer J. Hill and WCSO Deputy J. Dyer responded.
The suspect was handcuffed but, due to his fiancĂ© trying to assist the suspect, he was able to get his hands in front of himself and began fighting with officers again. Another deputy was kicked in the face by the suspect while trying to restrain him.
Both the suspect and his fiancĂ© were arrested. The suspect has been charged with two counts of felony assault on a law enforcement officer and Mississippi Department of Corrections has placed a hold on him.
"The initial responding deputy did an excellent job in handling the situation until back up arrived. And a special thanks to Officer Hill and Deputy Dyar for their quick response. This is one of many reasons why we are working everyday to get more funds to put extra deputies on the road. Extra deputies not only helps keep the citizens of Walthall County safe but officers as well. No one should have to answer a call like this by themselves and it shows how quickly a normal everyday call can turn into what could possibly be a fight for an officers life. Thankfully the deputies weren't seriously injured." Sheriff K. Breland
