The Louisiana Humane Society, the CATNIP Foundation in Folsom and Tangi Humane Society are among seven animal shelters and rescue groups that will get a share of a $100,000 grant from the American Humane Society this week.
Humane Society of Louisiana will receive $23,000 to create a "Disaster Response Staging Ground" at their 47-acre property in Washington parish. A portion of the large property will be made "incident ready" for short-term relief in large-scale cruelty investigations and disasters. When not in use for such purposes, the area will be used for temporary volunteer housing, special events, adoption days, and dog exercise yards.
CATNIP Foundation at Big Sky Ranch will receive $18,000 toward the purchase of a Trap/Neuter/Release (TNR) trailer.
Tangi Humane Society: $3,000 for use at its Hammond facility.
Other recipients include Companion Animal Rescue of Ascension (CARA)'s House ($7,000), City of Walker Animal Control ($16,000), Dog People of Livingston ($13,000), and St. Landry Parish Animal Control ($20,000).
