Another Mandeville Officer Terminated for Cause

Press Release from Mandeville Police Chief Gerald Sticker
On February 20, 2017 Officer Johnny Sanders (who was then employed by MPD but off duty) was issued a criminal summons by the St Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office for misdemeanor theft of goods. The charge was pursuant to a shoplifting complaint at The Home Depot in Covington. Sanders’ was accused of stealing 2 batteries totaling $168.00. Sanders police commission was immediately revoked by the Mandeville Police Department and he was placed on administrative leave.
After we conducted our own internal affairs investigation, I personally terminated Sanders’ from the police department on March 17, 2017. Last night (April 23rd) the Mandeville Municipal Police Employees’ Civil Service Board heard Sanders’ termination appeal. The board ultimately upheld Sander’s termination. (Sanders criminal case has yet to be adjudicated at the 22nd JDC.)
“This now former officer’s action has discredited himself and has brought this department under disrepute. Those who break the very laws that they are sworn to enforce will not be tolerated and I will root them out unapologetically. This department and this city deserves better.”
