Update on April 3rd Story
A burglary investigation that began March 27, 2017 into three Ponchatoula burglaries resulted in the arrests of seven as reported April 3, 2017. Today, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes and Narcotics Unit announced the arrest of Devin L Powell (26) of Robert.
As a result of the initial of the press release, detectives began to receive numerous calls on the location of Powell. Information they received caused them to return to Powell's residence in Robert where he was suspected to be staying in a camper. No contact was made with Powell but persons in the area advised he had left just prior to officers' arrival and that he was armed with a machete and had stated he would use it to kill a police K-9 if he had to.
Several hours later detectives again began to receive calls that Powell was back at the residence. Detectives as well as Sgt. Corey Michelli and TPSO K-9 Vhari returned to the residence. Powell was located in a shed, he fled while attempting to remove a machete from its sheath, and K-9 Vhari successfully apprehended Powell before he could remove the machete.

Powell was in possession of a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine and marijuana. He was charged with three counts of Simple Burglary, two counts of Theft of Firearms, three counts Convicted Felon in Possession, Resisting arrest, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance Schedule I, Possession with the intent to Distribute Controlled Dangerous Substance schedule II, and Attempted Murder of a Police Dog.
The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the public for their overwhelming support and assistance in locating Powell.
