Troops from Louisiana Troop L responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of La. highways 25 and 38 Saturday morning that claimed the life of Madison Nicholson (13) of McComb.
Troopers determined that a vehicle driven by Melinda Felker Collette (47) of Kentwood was eastbound on La. 38 and failed to stop at the intersection of 25. Collette's vehicle crashed into a vehicle southbound on La. 25 driven by Reagan Ballard Magee of McComb. The intersection of La. 25 and La. 38 is controlled by flashing red stop signals and a stop sign for traffic on La. 38. Traffic on La. 25 is controlled by a flashing yellow signal.
Madison Nicholson was seated in the front passenger seat of Magee's vehicle and, despite being properly restrained, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Collette, a juvenile passenger in Collette's vehicle, and Magee were transported to North Oaks Health Systems by Acadia Ambulance, where they were treated for moderate injuries.
Collette was cited for failure to stop at the intersection. The investigation is ongoing. Any additional charges will be referred to the 22nd Judicial District Court.
