Obituary

Anthony James Callahan
May 10, 1960 - March 02, 2017



Anthony James Callahan was born to the late Ruby Callahan and Melvin Hebert, Jr. on May 10, 1960. Anthony entered into eternal rest on March 2, 2017 at Lakeview Regional Medical Center in Mandeville, LA at 7:00 a.m.
Anthony attended Covington High School class of 1979. He later attended SLU for 2 ½ years. He loved playing baseball from a kid, after college and started his own softball team in 1985 in Franklinton, LA where he sponsored many tournaments on Sunday evenings at the Hill Park. He went on to coach little league with the Franklinton Dixie Little League Association where he remained from 1986-2008. He enjoyed coaching so much because he loved working with kids. He was everyone’s dad, paw paw and uncle.
Anthony became a member of the Outreach Full Gospel Church under the leadership of Dr. John Wesley James where he was a faithful member. He left for a while and returned to Outreach under the leadership of Pastor Antoine Graves and stayed faithfully until his health failed in February 2017.
He worked as a boilermaker, a scaffle builder and rigger for 30 plus years.
He is survived by, Sarah Jenkins Callahan of Franklinton, LA; 2 sons, Spencer Robinson of Bogalusa, LA and Anthony Dillon of Franklinton, LA; 5 daughters Tyra (Phillip) Ducre, of Covington, LA, Ruby Payne of Houston, Texas, Shatania Ginn, Dishika Moore, Paquita Dillon all of Franklinton; two brothers, Melvin (Stacy) Hebert of Ponchatoula, LA and Douglas (Karen) Johnson of Humble, TX; 8 sisters, Vanessa (Judge) Burton of Houston, Texas, Ellen Muse of Ponchatoula, LA, Lisa Landry, Cheryl (Bryan) Edwards both of Baker, LA, Dionne Hebert of Stockbridge, GA, Cheritta (Keldon) Singleton, Demetria Boles, and Jacqueline (Curtis) Thomas all of New Orleans, LA; 2 brothers-in-law, Eugene (Bernestine) Jenkins and Bruce Jenkins. His step-mother, Ms. Nicey Davis all of Franklinton, LA; 3 God children Paquita Thomas, Ralpheal Watson, Tiffany Callahan and Tammy Watson 17; granchildren and 4 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends. He was reared by a special lady, Mrs. Willie Mae and a special cousin, Rev. Dr. Mallery Callahan.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017 from 2:00PM – 6:00PM at Crain and Sons Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 11:00AM at Out Reach Full Gospel Church with Pastor Antoine Graves. Crain and Sons Funeral Home – Franklinton are in charge of arrangements.
