Troopers determined that April Bertoniere (36) of Bogalusa was travelling eastbound in a Ford Explorer and was driving at a slow rate of speed partially in her lane and partially on the right shoulder. Christopher Blansett was driving a log truck also eastbound and attempted to pass Bertoniere when she abruptly turned left from the shoulder to enter a private drive on the westbound side of the road. Blansett aggressively applied the brakes in an attempt to avoid crashing into Bertoniere which caused his load to shift and slide forward and through the cab of his truck.
Blansett was killed. Bertoinere was not hit or injured. All drivers were wearing their seatbelts and alcohol is not suspected to have been a contributing factor. As the crash investigation progresses, any violations of Louisiana Law will be forwarded to the Washington Parish District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
