Message from Senator Beth Mizell

Dear Friends and Constituents,

I write this in the hope you are somehow doing well in spite of the COVID-19 crisis. I hope we have all gained an even stronger value of life, family and faith as we have sheltered in place. Over the past month, we have experienced a new world and it’s just beginning. Somehow we must maintain our vigilance while we get back to work. That is our next challenge. Senator Kennedy says our choice to open up the economy while concerned about the health crisis is like choosing between cancer and a heart attack. In his colorful way he has summed up our dilemma. This challenge will require continued patience and strength together to get us to a better place in our fight against this virus and our ability to recover economically.

As your Senator for District 12, I am committed to doing all I can to keep our citizens safe and to allow Louisiana to succeed economically. I appreciate that Governor Edwards is following the guidelines set by President Trump. We have worked together to flatten our curve and we can continue working together through the crisis as necessary.

This session, which has been delayed for at least one month, will begin soon and my promise to you and Louisiana is that the legislature stands united to bring about historic changes for the long term benefits of our state and our citizens.  These opportunities are long overdue, yet they are not brought about by the crisis but instead by a resolve that our citizens have waited far too long to have a state competitive economically in our region and worthy of our citizens.

To move forward will require a new level of personal responsibility. We all have a role to play. Personal responsibility is to follow sensible guidelines and advice from the Center for Disease Control. Until we have a treatment or vaccine we cannot function as we have in the past.

You have my commitment to stand strong for Louisiana and I ask you to join me in taking personal responsibility as we attempt to gradually open our state.

As we move forward, please continue to contact me with your problems or concerns.
My email is mizellb@legis.la.gov , my office number is 985.839.3936 , my cell number is 985.515.0927 .

Together we can do great things for Louisiana.

Beth Mizell
District 12 State Senate
President Pro Tempore
