Washington Parish Council Hears About Ambitious Plans

When the they met Monday evening (January 27, 2020), the Washington Parish Council approved eight resolutions, heard from residents during the Public Participation segment of the meeting, and were advised of big plans for the future from Parish President Richard Thomas and his staff.

Five resolutions were approved concerning board appointments and three were related to routine compliance reports. Another resolution (beginning at 9:30 in video of the meeting), to approve Fire District's 7's request to hold an election on May 9, 2020 to levy an annual parcel fee of $29.67, was initially considered to be added to the Agenda. After consideration, the resolution was not added to the Agenda, and is to placed on the Agenda for the next Council meeting.

During the Public Participation segment, the Council
  • heard from one resident, apparently regarding the Fire District 7 parcel fee matter (beginning at 15:50 into video of the meeting),
  • heard a presentation regarding plans to start a new cub scout pack in Franklinton (beginning at 16:20 into video of the meeting),
  • heard from one resident on an issue related to theft of dogs, (beginning at 19:30 into video of the meeting).
President Thomas and his staff made their report to the Council (beginning at 24:40 into video of the meeting). Included in the report were steps taken and ambitious plans that will be of great benefit to Washington Parish. Grants recently completed, currently pending, and currently active total $75 Million.

Following Council Discussions, the meeting was adjourned.
