Washington Parish Road Crews Are Getting It Done!

During the Washington Parish Council meeting Monday evening (July 9, 2018), Road Supervisor Donnell Merritt reported on work performed for the month of June, 2018 (beginning at 11:50 into the video). Drainage work was performed on 10 roads, 48 tons of cold mix was put out on 21 roads covering 34 miles, 678 tons of hot mix was put out on 21 roads covering 48 miles, 26 new culverts were installed, 131 roads were graded covering 262 miles, 324 yards of gravel was put on 8 roads covering 24 miles, and 196 roads was bush-hogged covering 392 miles. And this doesn't include work, such as clearing roads of branches, cutting dead trees to prevent traffic obstructions, etc. In addition, separate crews under supervision of Carl Bickham picked up 303 bags of garbage on 18 roads, installed 21 road signs, maintained around 5 parish government locations, and sprayed around road signs and bridges.

Parish President Richard Thomas and the Councilmen complimented parish workers for their hard work.  Thomas pointed out that the work is performed in very hot conditions and that, when pouring asphalt that is over 200 degrees, the work becomes even more challenging.

Watch the video to learn what else was said and done at the meeting. Even better, attend the meetings in person at 6 pm on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at the Washington Parish Courthouse.
