Residents Address the WP Council With Issues & Questions

The Washington Parish Council Monday (April 24, 2017) evening introduced two ordinances enabling two Louisiana Community Development Block Grant applications to progress. They also approved two resolutions approving Fire Protection Districts #2 and #8 to hold elections for renewals of taxes  on October 14, 2017.
In addition, the Council
  • heard the quarterly report from the LSU Ag Center. (beginning 3:00 into video of the meeting)
  • heard from two residents regarding permitting, road maintenance and safety issues in Green Valley subdivision. The subdivision is a private subdivision with their own covenant rules. (beginning 13:00 into video of the meeting)
  • heard from resident Peggy Harris as to how she can obtain financial records of the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office, commented on issues at a trailer park near Riverside Medical Center, and reported on the good job done by DOTD after a tornado struck her home. (beginning 26:00 into video of the meeting)
  • heard from Washington Parish Librarian Al Barron with an update on efforts to secure a location for a branch in the Angie community. He also gave a reminder of a community event featuring folk singer Bobby Horton. (beginning 31:30 into video of the meeting)

The Council also heard reports from Washington Parish President Richard Thomas and his staff. (beginning 31:50 into video of the meeting)
The meeting concluded with comments from Council members.
