Submitted by Emma Dixon, Bogalusa Site Coordinator, National Wreaths Across America Program

Ashley Furniture volunteers delivered live Wreaths from Worcester, Maine for the 9th Annual Wreaths Across America program at the Bogalusa Cemetery and Duffy Historic Cemetery.

Ashley Furniture owner and volunteer drivers truly embody the 2019 National Wreaths Across America theme, "Everybody Plays A Part."  God Bless Wreaths Across America and all of its volunteers - from the ones who assemble the "live" wreaths in Worcester, Maine to the ones who package them, and the volunteer companies that ship them with their trucking lines, and the volunteers who place them at cemeteries in cities and small rural communities like Bogalusa around the country, at Arlington National and cemeteries around the world.  In the words of the Lee Greenwood song, "I am proud to be an American."

Bogalusa Wreaths Across America event is scheduled for 11:00 AM CST, Saturday, December 14, 2019 (in cooperation with the 12:00 Noon EST at Arlington National) at Bogalusa Cemetery with local partners BHS JROTC, DAV, City of Bogalusa, Washington Parish NAACP and Bogalusa AARP and Washington Men's Club.

Lacombe Man Charged With Murder and Sexual Abuse of an Animal

This morning (December 10, 2019), John Jacob Jenkins of Lacombe was arrested by the St.
Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office at Jenkins' place of employment on the charges of Second Degree Murder and Sexual Abuse of an Animal.

Shortly before noon on October 7, 2019, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call in reference to a medical emergency at a residence on Lake Road in Lacombe. Emergency Medical personnel also responded to the residence and attempted to revive an unresponsive white female, later identified as Jennifer DeBlonde Jacob, but were unsuccessful.

On October 8, 2019, the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy on the body of Jennifer DeBlonde Jacob. A ruling on cause and manner of death was deferred at that time, pending the results of toxicology. Those results, which were made known to the Sheriff’s Office in late November, showed traces of narcotics in the deceased’s system at the time of her death.

This investigation involved all divisions of the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office – investigations, DNA analyst, the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner and the forensic pathologist.

During the course of the investigation, a search warrant was obtained for John Jacob Jenkins’ residence, which yielded the seizure of several items of evidentiary value. Among those items were electronic devices containing pornographic images of human beings engaging in sexual contact with animals.

On December 3, 2019, the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office ruled the cause of death of Jennifer DeBlonde Jacob as Poly-Substance Drug Toxicity and the manner of death as homicide, and a warrant was issued for the arrest of John Jacob Jenkins.
