Sandra Jo Conerly Johnson
October 1, 1965-August 23, 2025
After an almost 20 year battle with cancer and its ravages, Sandy is free! She met her Lord and Savior on August 23, 2025, surrounded by those whom she loved best. Sandy was born on October 1, 1965, at Ochsner’s Foundation Hospital in Jefferson, LA, to Bobby Jo (whom she was named after) and Emogene Willoughby Conerly. She was born on her grandfather Conerly’s 72nd birthday. Sandy was the grand-daughter of James Lamkin and Vesta Fornea Conerly and Fred Miller and Emily Sibley Willoughby, all of Walthall County.
Sandy attended Walthall County schools and after graduation from THS, she attended Southwest and Co-Lin, graduating from USM with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 2005. After obtaining her RN, she worked at Walthall General Hospital, Marion General Hospital, Beecham Memorial, and Good Samaritan Living Center. She also taught LPN classes at the Sullivan Campus of Northshore Technical Community College in Bogalusa, LA.
Sandy married the love of her life, Larry “Wendell” Johnson on February 15, 1988, and they were blessed with two sons, Larry Wendell” “Trey” Johnson, III, of Pine, LA, and Trenton Alexander “Trent” Johnson of Angie, LA.
As much as Sandy loved the mountains of Montana, and animals - from lizards to parakeets to horses (Sugarbeet, Apache, Moonfire, and Trouble), but especially her dogs (Kash, Ragner, and Floki) - she loved her family so much more.
Sandy is survived by her husband Wendell, her sons, Trey (Lauren) and Trent (Skylar), Sandy was a ”Granna” to her grandchildren, the lights of her life- Kaiden, Kyler, Karter, Natalee, Beaux, Duce, Nash, Kashton, and Langston. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Emily Carter Johnson Wiltsey (Bruce), sister-in-law Mashea Johnson (Amanda), sister, Deborah Conerly Dillon (Ray), and brother, Robert Jeffrey Conerly, nephews, Jonathan Dillon (Heather), Gregory Dillon (Janie), Robert Dillon, niece, Amanda Dillon Fields (Branch), great nieces Eleanor Fields, Evelyn Fields, Emerson Dillon, great nephews Patrick Fields and Nolan Dillon, as well as a host of cousins and friends.
Sandy was predeceased by her parents, her grandparents, sister-in-law Merinda Johnson, and father-in-law, Larry Wendell Johnson.
Her journey through life was marked by trials, compassion for others and an incomparable inner strength. She offered help when she could and she touched the lives of many people, especially patients, friends, and family. Those who had the privilege of knowing her will forever cherish the memories, the laughter shared and occasions celebrated together. Though she will be dearly missed, her spirit will endure in the stories, the values she instilled, the lessons she taught in fighting valiantly – and beating cancer six times. In the quiet moments, we find comfort in remembering a life beautifully and well lived and knowing she is whole and at peace in the arms of Jesus.
Visitation will be held at Capps Funeral Home, 270 Old Hwy 98, Tylertown, MS 39667 on Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 2:00 PM until service time at 4:00 PM with Bro. Harold Gaddy officiating.
