Margaret Jane Knight Smith
July 9, 1943 - July 1, 2025
Margaret Jane Knight Smith, age 81 and a resident of Franklinton, went to be with the Lord early Tuesday morning July 1, 2025 at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans. She was a Franklinton High School graduate Class of 1961 where she played in the school marching band. Margaret worked in the Franklinton branch of the United States Post Office for 27 years before retiring. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Franklinton, where she taught children’s Sunday school for several years and served on various committees through the years. Margaret was the type of person willing to help others in need, especially her family. She took in and helped raise some of her younger siblings, and she always helped her nieces, nephews and cousins during times when they needed a trusted partner to look after them. After retiring, she and her husband traveled by RV throughout the country and even worked at Yellowstone National Park for several years. Margaret also organized different tours and trips for groups in town or her church family. She loved visiting with people that she met, including at restaurants around town, even stopping in just to check on the staff members that had become her friends.
