A 14-year-old student at a Mandeville-area junior high school was arrested Tuesday (May 20, 2025) for terrorizing.
Detectives with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Persons Crimes Unit began investigating after they were made aware of rumors circulating about students reportedly planning to bring weapons to school.
When questioned by detectives, the arrested student admitted he had started the rumor about the other students to hopefully get them in trouble.
The student was arrested for Terrorizing, and after it was determined there were no firearms at his residence, he was released to a parent on a custodial agreement to appear in court.
“Spreading untrue rumors about students bringing weapons to school is no joking matter,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “Parents, please talk to your children and explain to them the seriousness of spreading such rumors.”
