Obituary

George Scott Bennett

April 10, 1959 - January 07, 2021

George Scott Bennett, lifelong Bogalusa resident, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully in his sleep at his home on Avenue G in the early morning hours of January 7th, 2021. He was 61 years old.

“Sheep” as he was affectionately known to his family and friends, was married to the love of his life for 41 loving years, Frances Sue Bennett. Son of the late Floyd “Big Daddy” Bennett and Freda Alford Bennett. Also survived by his 3 brothers, Blake Bennett (Susan) of Metairie, Louisiana, Gregg Bennett (Loretta) of Abita Springs, Louisiana and Mark Bennett (Lauranna) of Brandon, Mississippi. Also survived by his nieces, Brittany Sones from Brookhaven, Mississippi, Emily Bennett and Maggie Bennett from Brandon, Mississippi, Bonnie Gilbert from Hammond, Louisiana and Amy Lee from Covington, Louisiana, his nephews Chris Bennett from Houston, Texas, Drew Bennett from Covington, Louisiana and Brady Bennett from Brandon, Mississippi, who all loved their “Uncle Sheep.”

Scott was also loved by his Uncle and Aunt, Elbert and Brenda Harris from Bogalusa and cousins Eric Harris (Kristie) and Christy St. Germain (Joey), both from Prarieville, Louisiana.

Born and raised on West 6th Street in Pleasant Hill and Camellia Road in Forest Hills, “Sheep” was the life of every party and a big influence on his younger brothers growing up. He was the “coolest’ big brother ever and taught us about life, especially hunting in the Pearl River swamp, listening to the best music on 8 track tapes, like Led Zeppelin, Rush, Jerry Jeff Walker and Jimmy Buffett and taking us to concerts in Baton Rouge, the Warehouse in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast Coliseum. He was a true renaissance man and taught us everything about life that we didn’t learn from our parents.

“Sheep” was loved by everyone, but his 3 brothers loved him most. But the one he loved most was his beautiful wife, the former Sue Harrison, Frances Sue Bennett. A true love story, Scott and Sue, as everyone called them, were inseparable. 41 years together and I can’t remember a night they were not together, except for maybe a few nights away at our deer camp in Mississippi. Like all of us, Sue is devastated by the loss of her beloved husband.

Please take a moment and say a prayer for Scott and the Bennett Family in our time of sadness and loss, he will always be remembered in our hearts and souls, just like our parents, Floyd and Freda Bennett.

A celebration of “Sheep’s” life will be held at a later date in Bogalusa once this terrible Covid crisis that has effected so many of our friends and family subsides. And I promise, some of that classic 8 track rock and roll music will be playing at his memorial. I love you brother, I will miss you forever!

Gregg Bennett (#3 son)
