Last Meeting of Current Franklinton Board of Aldermen

The Franklinton Board of Aldermen met Tuesday (December 8, 2020) evening, the last meeting of the current Board of Aldermen. The regularly scheduled meeting for December 22, 2020 was cancelled.

An Inauguration ceremony will be held on December 29, 2020 at the Fairgrounds Stage to mark the installation of Mayor Greg Route and the five Aldermen: Patrice Crain, Darwin Sharp, Heath Spears, T. J. Butler, and Seth Descant.

In addition to a new Mayor and one new Alderman (Seth Descant), the Board of Aldermen will be joined at their meetings by Town Attorney James Knight replacing Ellen Creel who was recently elected District Judge.

The Board heard reports Tuesday night from Police Chief Justin Brown, Fire Chief Dustin Wascom, Town Clerk Ellen Waskom, and Public Works Superintendent Reginald McMasters. Of particular interest was the report by Fire Chief Wascom regarding an increase in the property insurance ratings that will result in an increase in insurance rates for residents and businesses. Hear his report and questions/comments/suggestions beginning at 8:50 into video of the meeting.

The Mayor, the Aldermen, and Town Attorney Ellen Creel made remarks that included recognition of accomplishments made and congratulations to those who ran for office.
