Tangipahoa Parish Schools Closed Monday and Tuesday (August 24-25, 2020)

Tangipahoa Parish School Superintendent Melissa Stilley announced that all Tangipahoa Parish School System schools and district offices will be closed Monday, Aug. 24, and Tuesday, Aug. 25 due to the approach of Tropical Storm Marco,

“The safety of our employees and the families we serve is our top priority,” Stilley said, adding that 12 month employees should not report to their job sites, unless notified by their supervisor.

Once the threat is lifted, principals and head custodians will check school campuses.

Virtual classes will not be held during the closure, Stilley said. Zoom meetings will not be held during this time either. The district will re-evaluate the school calendar to identify ways to make up for loss of instructional time due to the closure, Stilley said.

Chromebook and mobile hot spot distribution scheduled during this closure will be postponed until after the storms have passed. Those new distribution dates and times will be communicated by the schools later this week.

The district will continue to monitor a second weather system, currently known as Tropical Storm Laura, and will provide updated information on potential closures during the week.
