Quick Change Scam Takes Cashier for $700

Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa, Inc. reports that today (Wednesday, August 12, 2020), the Hammond Police Department responded to Quick Way Food Store on University Avenue in Hammond after the cashier reported that she had been a victim of a quick change scam. The cashier reported two black males and a black female entered the store, and after executing the scam, they walked away with a total of $700.

A quick change scam is when an individual targets an inexperienced cashier by paying for small-priced items with a large bill. Before the cashier can give back the change, the individual will engage the cashier in a speedy series of money exchanges that confuses the cashier. In the confusion, the suspect tells the cashier how much money to give back, causing the register to be short.

“If you can identity these people in this case, please call Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa’s anonymous tip line at 1.800.554.5245 or visit www.tangicrimestoppers.com and click on the P3 Tips icon or Submit A Tip! Be a part of the solution and you may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000! “
