Obituary

Sophia Burton Moore
January 05, 1957 - May 04, 2020



Sophia Ardella Burton Moore was the sixth of 10 children, born to the late Elder Oreece C Burton, and Missionary Leola Magee Burton, in Bogalusa, Louisiana.  She was favored to be named after both her paternal (Sofie) and her maternal (Ardella) grandmothers. 

She was loved by many, and she loved people. She had such a kind spirit, and would do whatever she could for people.  Her amazing gift to share a story with you made you feel as if you were there witnessing the event.

She was educated in the Washington Parish School system, where she matriculated from Pine High School in 1976.

Professionally she worked as a Certified Clerical worker, educated at Sullivan Vocational-Technical, and also a Certified Caregiver at Res Care Corporation for many years.

She was a lifetime member of the Lear Hill Church of God In Christ, Clifton, Louisiana, she loved her church, and supported it on the local, district, jurisdictional, and the national level.  She served as the melodious praise and worship leader, choir psalmist, good shepherd coordinator, hospitality worker, and she led the service in the kitchen to ensure that her pastor and first lady, and everyone in attendance were well feed naturally also following their Sunday Worship Services.  She acquired this act of servitude following the home-going of her mother, and she served faithfully until she became visually impaired.

Sophia met and married the love of her life Darrie Moore, on October 3, 1992. She was an exceptional cook and took great pride in decorating her home, where she and her husband welcomed both family and friends.

Sophia was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 2 sisters, Florence M Haynes. Willistine L. Patterson, 1 brother, Shadrack Burton, and her grandparents.

She leaves to cherish her memory,1 stepson, Markey Henderson, 1 grandchild, three devoted and loving brothers Clarence Burton (Barbara), Ezzard O. Burton (Sharon), Esco E. Burton, I (Treana), three devoted and loving sisters, Betty Burton, Priscilla Fondren (Albert),  Trina Waters (Orlando) and  22 dearly beloved nieces and nephews and a host of precious great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and the Lear Hill Church of God In Christ.

Arrangements are entrusted to Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Franklinton.

Interment: Lear Hill Church of God In Christ Memorial Garden, 43515 LA-38, Clifton, LA 70438.

Due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions, there will be no physical/public access to this celebration. There will be a private burial, as we will be practicing social distancing as everyone’s health is our number one priority.
