Obituary

Mary Adams Crumedy
May 08, 1932 - April 30, 2020

Mary Adams Crumedy entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 30, 2020, at Our Lady of the Angels Hospital. Mrs. Crumedy was 87 years old.

She was a graduate of Central Memorial High School, Class of 1951. After graduation, she was united in matrimony with Ollie Packard, Jr. A few years later Mary attended Sullivan Vocational-Technical School where she earned a certificate in Secretarial/Office Management.

During 18 years with the Bogalusa Medical Center Dietary Department she began as a cook, and was later promoted to shift supervisor. Mary volunteered as a Foster Grandparent with the Bogalusa Head Start Program. She loved working with the young children and enjoyed hearing “Hi Miss Mary” when she would see them out and about with their parents.

An advocate for community service, Mary volunteered for numerous organizations including the NAACP; AARP; Habitat for Humanity; Museums of Cassidy Park; and the Bogalusa Planning & Zoning Commission. In 2019 she was honored for 12 years of service on the Commission. Mary also served as President of the Senior Mission of her church.

Her pastimes included gardening, and singing. Mary spent hours in her garden, tending flowers and shrubbery that drew admiration from neighbors and passersby. Her lovely soprano voice was heard in the choir at Second Baptist Church and during solos at weddings and special programs within the community.

Preceeding Mary in death were her parents, Rev. Percy Adams Sr. and Mrs. Edna Brown Adams; sisters Irma Adams Moore, Edna Adams Francis, and Stella Adams; and brothers Emmett Adams, Rufus Adams, Percy Adams Jr., Booker T. Adams, Eddie Adams, Jimmy Adams, Frank Adams and George Adams.

Family members left to celebate her life include her 5 children: Gilda Thompson, Lisa Williams, Sharon Robertson (Darryl), Wendy Elaine Joubert (Joe) and Larry Packard (Michelle); 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She also leaves to cherish her memory a sister in Christ, Mrs. Janice Buchanan; two lifelong friends Jerry Chatmon and Betty Kenny, both of Chicago IL; dear friends Mr. Eddie Ratcliff and Mrs. Willene Ellzey.

A special thank you is extended to family friends Mrs. Erica Brumfield and Ms. Debra Johnson for their heartfelt assistance and care during our mother’s extended illness, and Ms. Lisa Holmes for her assistance during Mary’s final months. Also, sincere gratitude to the doctors and nurses of Our Lady of the Angels Hospital who provided compassionate care during Mary’s final days.

A Visitation is scheduled for May 6, 2020 from 11 AM to 12 PM at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home of Franklinton, La.
