Josie Creel Hoggatt
May 31, 1929 - May 14, 2020



Betty Josephine "Josie" Creel Hoggatt, AGE 90 and a resident of Franklinton, passed away late Thursday night May 14, 2020 at her home with her family by her bedside. She was born May 31, 1929 in Franklinton to the late Houston Creel and Eula Walters Creel. Josie retired from Franklinton Elementary School after 30 years of service as the school secretary. She enjoyed playing the piano, singing in her church choir and in the First Baptist Church Senior Singers. Josie was a lifelong and dedicated member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she could be called on to play the piano whenever needed for over 60 years. She loved spending time with her family, especially their long standing tradition of drinking afternoon coffee. Josie enjoyed shopping trips with her sister and niece. She loved flowers, working in her yard and tending to her potted plants. Josie always loved animals, especially her dogs Shadow and Caramel.

Survived by: Husband of 62 years: Fred Hoggatt of Franklinton; 2 Sons and Daughters in law: Brent and Lisa Hoggatt, Jimmie and Joanie Varnado all of Franklinton; 2 Grandsons and Spouses: Scott and Lindsey Varnado, Craig and Jennifer Varnado all of Fort Myers, FL; 2 Granddaughters: Kaitlyn Hoggatt and fiancé Matt Stuart of Pine, Sarah Hoggatt of Franklinton; 6 Great-grandchildren: Avery, Gavin, Dylan, Briley, Violet, Reid; Sister and Brother in law: Helen and Gerald Welch; Brother and Sister in law: Charley and Sharron Creel; Sister in law: Merle Stringfield; Also 9 dearly loved nieces and nephews and their families as well as numerous cousins and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Houston and Eula Creel, father in law and mother in law Garland and Emma Dell Hoggatt and brother in law Vick Stringfield.

A graveside funeral service will be held in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery at 2:00 pm Saturday May 16th with Rev. Jim Richardson officiating.
