William Bankston "Bill" Estes, Sr.
January 20, 1928 - May 3, 2020



William Bankston "Bill" Estes, Sr., age 92 and a resident of Mount Hermon, died early Sunday morning May 3, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Living Center. He was a longtime member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church who loved listening to his favorite music. Bill was the owner/operator of Estes Service Company that serviced A/C and refrigeration systems. He served as the President of the Mt. Hermon Community Water Board and was also a member of the Mt. Hermon Ruritan Club. Bill loved to drink coffee while visiting with his friends and he was known for his great sense of humor. He was an ambitious, hardworking handy-man that could fix just about anything and a loving husband, father and grandfather to his family.

Survived by: Wife of 75 years: Cherry Shumake Estes of Mt. Hermon; 2 Daughters and a Son in law: Chyrel Learned, Sharon and Robert Klerk all of Mt. Hermon; Son: William B. Estes, Jr. of Mt. Hermon; 3 Grandchildren and Spouses: Jeffery E. Black of Mt. Hermon, Andrew and Cara Klerk of Loranger, Jennifer K. and Adam Morgan of Hattiesburg, MS; 3 Great-grandchildren: Alaina Eve Klerk, Cohen James Klerk, Cameron Robert Morgan; 2 Half-sisters: Kathy Nunnery, Debbie Smith; Half-brother: Howard Estes; Also numerous brothers in law and sisters in law and many beloved nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents William Calvin Estes and Victoria Irene Pittman Estes, 2 brothers and sisters in law Glenvall and Lorene Estes, Herman and Velma Estes, son in law Daniel Learned, grandson Christopher Black and half-brother David Estes.

A graveside funeral service will be held in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery at 10:00 am Wednesday May 6th with Rev. Ray Wuerzer and Dr. Joe Baugh officiating.
