Obituary

Gene Varnado
July 14, 1952 - March 20, 2020

Gene Varnado, age 67 and a resident of Franklinton, died late Friday night March 20, 2020 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital. He was a United States Air Force veteran of the Vietnam Era and a member of Canaan Baptist Church. Gene was a longtime successful dairyman that enjoyed the daily farming work that was required like, driving the tractor, working the fields and caring for his herd. He also, later in life, drove a spreader truck for Circle T Fertilizer and Seed Company. Gene loved deer hunting and rabbit and deer hunting with beagles and hounds. Though he never had children of his own, Gene always helped care for his nieces and nephews, even the youngest ones to this day. He often taught them how to work on the farm, swim, drive a truck, go hunting, register to vote and all the many things in life he felt was important for them to learn. He was always a willing babysitter and he had a big heart for each of his family members. Gene will be greatly missed by all those he helped care for.

Survived by: Brother and Sister in law: Kirby and Marsha Varnado of the Bolivar Community; Sister and Brother in law: Ann Varnado Cowart and George Cowart of Franklinton; Sister in law: Janice Varnado of Pensacola, FL; Aunt: Margaret Ann Seal; Uncle: Kirby Seal; Also numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews that he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur Tycer Varnado and Laverne Seal Varnado, brother Mack Stewart Varnado, sister Faye Varnado Miller and other family members.

Gene will be laid to rest alongside his parents in the Seal Cemetery. A private family service, with military honors, will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to a charity of your choice.
