Covington 6 Month-Old, Left in Car for 12 Hours, Expected to Recover

On Thursday, March 12, 2020, The Covington Police Department responded to a report of a child being left unattended in a vehicle for “an excess of hours” They discovered that a six-month-old infant was left inside of a vehicle by the parents, Catelin Popiolek (21) and Aleksander Popiolek (22) for approximately 12 hours.

The child’s parents left the infant inside of their vehicle at 11:30 PM Wednesday (March 11, 2020) and the child was not discovered until approximately 11:30 AM Thursday (March 12, 2020). It was also discovered that the two were smoking marijuana and never went to check on their infant child in the back seat.

The infant was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The infant is expected to recover. 

Catelin Popiolek is charged with Cruelty to Juvenile, Illegal Use of Controlled Dangerous Substance in the Presence of Persons under seventeen years of age, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Schedule 1, and Possession of Schedule 1 in a Drug-Free Zone.

Aleksander is charged with Cruelty to Juvenile, Illegal Use of Controlled Dangerous Substance in the Presence of Persons Under Seventeen Years of Age, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Schedule 1.
