Council Hears of Improvements Being Made

Washington Parish President Richard Ned Thomas updated the Parish Council Monday evening (March 9, 2020) on improvements (see the video beginning at 13:30) being made across the parish, including in the Bogue Chitto State Park, in the Catcaw community, at the School Board facility in Bogalusa, and in the Varnado community.

In other business,
  • one ordinance was introduced to abandon 1,366.20 feet of Western part of Branch Drive. A Public Hearing will be held on the ordinance on March 16, 2020 at 5:45 pm
  • three resolutions were approved to appoint board members to Washington Parish Fire District No. 5, Washington Parish Fire District No. 9, and Washington Parish Recreation District No. 1
  • one resolution was approved authorizing the Parish President to reject recent bids and re-advertise for new bids to construct Washington Parish Library's Angie Branch 
  • President Thomas read a proclamation naming March 28, 2020 as Blinded Veterans Day
  • Heard a report from Transportation Manager Donnell Merritt (beginning at 12:10 into video of the meeting)
  • Finance Director Donna Graham reported that the State will be adding three community health worker positions at the Health Unit. See the video beginning 16:55. More information should be available at the next meeting
