LSU AgCenter Will Hold Industrial Hemp Meeting

The LSU AgCenter will hold a meeting for those interested in learning more about the state’s industrial hemp program from 9:00 to 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 15, 2020, in the Franklinton Primary School auditorium (610 T.W. Barker Dr., Franklinton, LA).

Speakers from the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry will discuss the rules and regulations associated with the production, transportation, and processing of industrial hemp in Louisiana. The meeting will include a welcome from Representative Malinda White and an update from the LSU AgCenter on current research efforts.

For accommodations for persons with disabilities, please contact Horticulture Agent Mary Helen Ferguson (mhferguson@agcenter.lsu.edu, 985-277-1850, or 985-839-7855) at least three days before the event.

Editor's Note: Industrial hemp is being promoted as a new cash crop for Louisiana's struggling farmers. Hemp is a member of the cannabis plant family but contains only low levels of the THC chemical compound that causes a high for marijuana users. Hemp is used for textiles, fuels, clothing, rope and other products.
