Obituary

Joyce Elizabeth Brown
January 20, 1930 - December 6, 2019



On Friday, December 6, 2019, Franklinton resident, Joyce Elizabeth Brown, age 89, passed away surrounded by her three children.

Born in Chaffee, New York, Joyce and her husband Walter, along with their children, moved to Franklinton in 1967 where Walt worked for the Borden's Dairy Company.

Joyce and her family established many lifelong friendships in Franklinton. She and her husband were co-owners of The Cottage, an eatery which is still fondly remembered today. Those friendships developed through their love of square dancing, the many weekends spent at the Bogue Chitto Camping Club, and Centenary United Methodist Church, where she was a secretary for many years. Joyce loved cross-stitching, reading but more than anything, having lunch with her Sunday school ladies, “The Silver Foxes."

Joyce will be remembered by her children, Deborah(Brown)& Larry Sylvest, David & Marsha Brown, Susan(Brown)& Alan McCain; Seven grandchildren, Tres, Jason and Elizabeth (Kennedy) Sylvest, Jeremy, Justin and Jennifer (McKenzie) Brown, Megan and Adrienne McCain; Ten great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Jack (Janet) Finch of Freedom, NY.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Lenora Finch, husband, Walter N. Brown and her grandson, Jeremy M. Brown.

Visitation will be at Centenary United Methodist Church at 10:00 am Tuesday December 10th. A memorial service will be held in the church at 11:00 am Tuesday with Rev. Brian Ridgedell officiating.
