Obituary

Rev. Marvin York
December 15, 1930 - December 12, 2019



Reverend Marvin York was called by the Lord three days prior to his 89th birthday, on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at his residence in Mount Hermon, LA after a lengthy illness.  He was born December 15, 1930 in Uneedus, Louisiana to Charles York and Viola Cyprian and he was reared by his maternal grandmother, Dycie R. Cyprian.   At an early age he was baptized and attended Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.

He received his education in the Tangipahoa and St. Tammany School Parish System.

After finishing schools in Louisiana, he married Henrietta White and to this union, four children were born, Marvin York, Jr., Mitchell York, Patricia York and Avery C. York.

After leaving Louisiana to pursue other opportunities he resided in various states including Wisconsin.

Upon completion of his college education, he was Chairman of the St. Paul Credit Union for 18 years and he was employed with the City of St. Paul where he designed the Civil Service Test for the City of St. Paul and then he became the supervisor for the finance administrative department until his retirement.

He received his advance education at Globe College, Metropolitan State Junior College and the University of Minnesota.  He also attended Bethel Bible College in St. Paul, Minnesota where he pursued and received his ministerial license and after attending Bethel Bible College, he was ordained into the ministry at New Hope Baptist Church in St. Paul, Minnesota under Pastor Kneely Williams.

In 1965 Reverend York founded New Jerusalem Baptist Church in St. Paul, Minnesota and pastored until relocating back to Louisiana.

In 1980 he married Miss Lucinda Coleman and they were married for 39 years until his passing.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories, his beloved wife Lucinda York of 40 years; three children, Mitchell York, St. Paul, MN; Marvin (Pat) York, Jr., Deephaven, MN; Reverend Avery C. (Linda) York; Darryl York (Grandson) raised like a son.

A special daughter, Rose Brown.  Three brothers, Bill (Loletha) Mack, Anaheim, CA; James (Katherine) Mack, Harbor City, CA; Charles Roberts, Portland, Oregon; six sisters, Patricia Perry, Seattle, Washington; Dixie Sheridan, Conroe, TX; Audrey (Johnny) Harris, Loranger, LA; Nellie (Wesley) Burris, Folsom, LA; and Carolyn (Howard) Frank, Spring, TX; ten grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren;  his God daughters, Kendra Norwood of Washington; Mrs. Evelyn Williams of Kentwood, LA; Dr. Celvia Stovall of Alabama and Mrs. Ossie Smith of Angie, LA and numerous nephews, nieces and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father Charles York and Viola Cyprian Mack; his daughter Patricia York; his brothers, Iley Mack, Curtis Mack, Nelson Mack, Sydney Ray Mack and Alvin Mack, Sr. and his sister, Rose Mae Kaigler.

The visitation will be Friday, December 20, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Crain and Sons Funeral Home, 2000 Washington Street, Franklinton, LA 70438 and Saturday, December 21, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until Noon at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 55146 Old Uneedus Road, Uneedus, LA. with the funeral following at Noon.
