Washington Parish Sheriff's Office Reports Inmate Death

Washington Parish Sheriff's Office Chief Mike Haley reports that early Wednesday morning (October 23, 2019), a Washington Parish Jail inmate collapsed to the floor in his dormitory. CPR was administered by a deputy sheriff. Northshore EMS responded to the jail and transported the inmate to Riverside Medical Center in Franklinton. The inmate died at the hospital from what appears to be natural causes.

The St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office is conducting an autopsy in an effort to determine the exact cause of death.

The deceased was a 65 year old male who had been in jail since August 8, 2019, charged with six counts of distribution of illegal narcotics. When he was booked into the jail, he did not state any serious medical issues and had seen the jail physician a few days prior to his death.

The Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office detective division is conducting an internal investigation.

The name of the deceased has not been released.
