Sheriff Randy Seal Announces “OFFENDERWATCH” APP

Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal announces the launch of a new cell phone app designed to enable parents and guardians to help safeguard their children. The new app, produced by a Covington company, was announced earlier this month at a meeting of the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association.

The app, officially known as OffenderWatch Safe Virtual Neighborhood, monitors social media sites and notifies parents or guardians if the child’s cell phone is near the address of a registered sex offender for an extended period of time. Interested parents or guardians may obtain more information at www.offenderwatch.com.

“Louisiana Sheriffs are pleased to announce this new app which may be an excellent tool to help keep a child away from the residence of a registered sex offender,” stated Sheriff Seal. “There is a small annual fee, but our Sheriff’s Office does not profit from the sale of the app. We simply join with other Sheriffs’ offices statewide to announce that the app is available.”
